Craig Morris: A Legacy in the Sport of Cutting
Craig Morris is a National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Hall of Fame rider with approximately $2 million in career earnings. A Texas native, Craig has dedicated his life to the sport of cutting, earning a reputation as a world-class trainer, producer, television personality, and entrepreneur. His passion for horsemanship and his deep understanding of the cutting horse industry have made him one of the most respected figures in the field.
Craig’s career reached new heights in 2003 when he won the prestigious NCHA Open Futurity Championship aboard *One Smart Looking Cat*, the first offspring of legendary sire High Brow Cat to claim the title. The mare’s dam, *The Smart Look*, a million-dollar producer bred at Wiens Ranch, played a pivotal role in shaping Craig’s success. This historic win cemented his place among cutting’s elite and showcased his ability to develop top-tier equine athletes.
Beyond the show pen, Craig is committed to preserving and growing the sport of cutting. He has joined forces with former Colorado Senator, rancher, and entrepreneur Tom Wiens to bring cutting back to the Front Range of Colorado. Based at Wiens Ranch, Craig is spearheading efforts to create a premier environment for cutting events, training, and education. His expertise, combined with Wiens Ranch’s legacy of producing champion cutting horses, offers an unparalleled opportunity for both seasoned competitors and newcomers to the sport.
"Cutting is how I was raised, and it’s where I raised my family," Craig says. "The cutting horse is the ultimate equine athlete—stopping hard, running fast, turning quick, and outthinking a cow with little guidance from the rider. It’s an incredible sport, and I’m excited to share it with more people at this world-class facility."
Now at Wiens Ranch, Craig continues to shape the future of cutting, blending tradition with innovation to ensure the sport thrives for generations to come.
